Title: Learning from medical data
Abstract: This talk presents our work in the project “Building core technologies for exploitation of electronic medical records”. The talk first addresses challenges in processing medical data then presents some of our work on learning from clinical text, causality in adverse drug reaction, learning and recommending treatments from electronic medical records.

Biography: Ho Tu Bao received the B.Tech. degree in applied mathematics from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (1978); master and PhD degrees in artificial intelligence (1984 and 1987, respectively) from the University of Paris 6, France. His research interest is in machine learning and its appplications, in particular in medicine and. He worked at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (1979-2010, Associate Professor in 1991) and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST 1993-2018, Professor in 1998). He is currently Professor Emeritus of JAIST, Director of Data Science Laboratory of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and Scientific Director of John von Neumann Institute of Vietnam National University at Ho Chi Minh City.
