Title: Current Status of Drone Delivery Technology and Service

Abstract: This presentation’s topic covers drone delivery technology and service in development since 2006. The background and requirements of drone delivery service will be briefly introduced, and examples of drone delivery services will be described with a focus on major domestic and foreign logistics service providers. The presentation will also describe the drone delivery system first implemented in 2016 and the drone delivery business currently in development in addition to the future development direction for drone delivery. The drone delivery system developed by ETRI will be used by a wide range of service providers such as logistics companies, delivery companies, and newspapers to provide drone delivery services in urban areas and isolated ones like islands

Biography: Hoon Jung received his MS and PhD degrees in industrial engineering from Iowa State University, IA, USA and the University of Missouri, MO, USA, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. Since 2002, he has been working for the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Daejeon, Rep. of Korea, where he is now a Director. His main research interests are supply chain management, logistics automation & information systems, drone & robot delivery system, and PHM(prognosic health management). He is currently developing drone & robot safety control and real-time multi-drone & robot control technology to enable 100% reliability for safe drone & robot delivery in the untact last mile delivery service field.
